Commands available while reading messages depend on your security
level and the message being viewed. The following choices may
appear as options when reading messages:
[
R
]
eply
Reply generates a message FROM YOU addressed TO the sender
of the original message. The SUBJECT field may be changed
as the reply is made, allowing you to change the subject and
begin a new message THREAD (see below).
This prompt appears on all messages unless your security
level is prohibited from entering messages.

orward
Forwarding is a feature which allows you to send a copy of
the message on screen to another user. You are prompted for
a valid user name, and a copy of the message is addressed TO
the new user, FROM the original user. It will contain an
additional message line indicating that it was originally
addressed to [original party] and forwarded to you by [your
name] on [date & time].
This prompt appears only on messages addressed to you, from
you or to those with sysop message rights.

ill
Killing a message actually moves it to message folder "Y",
the wastebasket. The wastebasket may be deleted by the
sysop as desired to physically purge the message from the
system.
This prompt appears only on messages addressed to you, from
you or to those with sysop message rights.

rivate
One of the above toggles appears allowing you to change the
status of a message from public to private or vice-versa.
This prompt appears only on messages addressed to you, from
you or to those with sysop message rights.
[
N

onStop
Allows continuous reading of messages from the currently
displayed message forward. The method of reading in effect
at the time the non-stop function is initiated determines
the reading order, either chronological or folder-by-folder.
NonStop reading may be terminated by pressing the spacebar
at any time, and is available to all callers.
[
S

napShot
The snapshot feature prints a properly formatted copy of the
current message to the printer attached to the device PRN:.
It is only available to users logged in locally, and only if
the printer is toggled on with the F3 key.
[
M

ove
Allows moving the message to a different message folder. You
will be prompted to enter a new message folder form any to
which you have access.
This prompt appears only on messages addressed to you, from
you or to those with sysop message rights.

The edit function clears the screen and re-displays the
current message with prompts similar to those when finished
entering a message. You may delete lines, insert lines,
edit specific lines, change the subject, list the message,
and save a revised copy.
This prompt appears only on messages from you and to those
with sysop message rights.

A message THREAD in WILDCAT! is not actually a true thread,
but refers to messages with the same identical SUBJECT. A
thread is generated by a series of [R]eplies to messages
with the same subject field.
If a message has ever had a reply made to it which generated
a subject thread, it includes a line below the message text
which reads "This message is part of a thread, use [T] to
follow subject thread". Selecting [T]hread will cause
WILDCAT! to search chronologically for the next message with
the same subject field, regardless of folder. This search
continues to display matching subjects until the last
matching message is displayed, at which time you are
notified that the thread is exhausted with the message
>> END OF THREAD <<. You are then returned to the message
following your original starting point.
The [T] command may be optionally followed by a minus sign
(T-) to indicate following the thread in reverse order. The
current status of threading is displayed after each message
with a line reading "Threading forward. Use - to change the
thread direction to reverse."
Message thread reading may be activated whether your current
reading mode is chronological or by folder. Thread reading
is always performed in chronological order, and will return
you to reading in the your original mode once the thread has
been exhausted. If you continue non-thread reading you may
find yourself re-reading messages already seen in the thread
since the thread reading jumped ahead. If you want to read
all mail by threads simply continue to select [T]hread
reading after completing each previous thread.
Although message threads may cross folders, each message
found is checked for security access, and any messages
located in unauthorized areas are withheld.
[
-
]
While reading within a thread your choices will also include
the - to change to reverse thread reading, or the + if you
are already reading in reverse.
e
[
X
]
it thread
Pressing X while reading within a thread immediately returns
you to your beginning point and terminates thread reading.
[
Q
]
uit
Exits the message read function and returns to the message
menu.
[
ENTER
]
The [ENTER] key or carriage return key presents the next
message in the order selected.
